The Lane Transit District (LTD) Board of Directors is pleased to announce Ronald Kilcoyne as the District’s new general manager. LTD is in its 41st year of operation, and Mr. Kilcoyne will become the District’s fifth general manager. He will replace Mark Pangborn, who is retiring on June 30, 2011, after serving as director of administrative services, assistant general manager, and general manager during his 29 years at the District. It is expected that Mr. Kilcoyne will begin his tenure in July 2011.
Mr. Kilcoyne is leaving the Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority, located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to return to the west coast and lead LTD. With 31 years of experience in transit, Mr. Kilcoyne will bring strong leadership and vision to LTD. For the past seven years, Ron has served as the CEO/general manager at Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority, and he has been active in the American Public Transit Association (APTA), serving on a variety of committees and as a member of the APTA Board of Directors. Prior to starting in Bridgeport, Ron spent 10 years as the transportation manager at the City of Santa Clarita. He began his career with AC Transit in Oakland, CA.
Mr. Kilcoyne has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of San Francisco and has participated in various transit leadership programs, including the Transit Management Effectiveness Program at the University of California and the ENO Foundation International Transit Study Program.
LTD Board President Mike Eyster noted, “The Board feels strongly that Ron Kilcoyne has what it takes to continue the great transit tradition LTD has built over the past 41 years. Ron’s leadership ability and understanding of transit’s role will allow LTD to effectively engage the public and work collaboratively with our jurisdictional partners in the coming years.”
A nationwide search was conducted by the Generator Group, a Portland, Oregon, firm specializing in executive searches. Sixty-seven (67) professionals from throughout the United States submitted resumes. Following a screening process, phone interviews, and a candidate review by the LTD Board of Directors, three finalists were selected to participate in a series of interviews, which took place in late April. LTD Board members then visited Bridgeport to conduct on-site interviews with transit district employees and community leaders.
Mr. Kilcoyne’s current salary at Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority is $143,000 per year, and he receives a $5,000 annual car allowance. Mr. Kilcoyne will receive an annual salary of $150,000 from Lane Transit District and will receive an annual car allowance of $4,000. Moving expenses of up to $19,000, plus 50 percent of expenses in excess of $19,000, will be provided. Mr. Kilcoyne’s contract will be for three years and will be renewed annually thereafter.
