I had the pleasure of working for Dr. Jac at Saratoga Institute and must underscore the main points in "Ahead of the Curve." Dr. Jac did not appreciate people who would say, "Well, it does take time for new ideas to soak in. We should be patient."
"Fiddlesticks," he would reply. "It'sall about measuring outcomes not inputs...what's so hard to get about that? Do you count the foods you eat or the pounds you weigh? People don't want to get it because it holds them accountable for results. In much of HR, that's hemlock."
Well, maybe not exact quotes, but I'm pretty close.
I still remember the questions he asked me during my interview:
1. Can you write? Prove it to me. 2. Can you think? Prove it to me.
It was a difficult interview, but I must have passed: I worked for Saratoga and it's purchaser, Pricewaterhouse/Coopers for nearly ten years.
Biggest Takeway? I learned more about survey design and data interpretation at Saratoga than in all my other professional experiences combined. I still miss it.

Your comment "I didn't even ask" is very profound and something to remember when obstacles and opportunities arise in the future.
